Mr Gay World, Charl Van Den Berg
To whom it may concern,
I am a South African teenager, who came 'fully' out of the closet about 6 months ago when I decided to take a guy date to my Matric Farewell, similar to what Americans would call a Prom.
It was brilliant, and my whole school supported me, I got cheered as my date and I left the car and walked to the entrance. I realise how lucky I was to be in a school like that.
With this, I just want to say thank you to Mr Gay World organisation for doing what they are doing, and that I think its a wonderful competition making people aware that gay people are also humans.
There's an Afrikaans video of Charl on the site. I will be able to translate it, I just need to figure out how to add subtitles to a video, but I think I might be able to manage. I will look at it this weekend.
I do not know if you are aware, but a friend of mine recently referred this site to me: www.itgetsbetter.org
It is wonderful site doing some important work. Gay teen suicide is a serious issue, and I believe that we can all make a little difference. The video's available on that site are really motivating.
Once again, thank you so much,
Peet van Staden
